A Little About Me: This is my 8th year of teaching and I'm so glad to be back in my hometown. I have 2 children; Olivia who is 6 and Blake who is 2. My husband is a nurse and works at Stevens County Medical Clinic. My favorite hobby is just spending time with my family.
Reading: Our Core Instruction will come from our Journey's Literacy Series and we will continue to use and implement the College and Career Readiness Standards. Our time will consist of whole group instruction, literacy centers, and independent work. It is my goal to not only make your child a better reader, but to instill the love of literacy in your child. We will do many fun, hands-on projects and will also focus on understanding what we are reading on a deep and personal level.
Writing: We will continue working on writing complete paragraphs with a clear beginning, middle and end. We will also work on the writing process and using the 6-traits of writing.
Math: This year our math focus will be on multiplication, division, fractions, and much, much more. Instruction will be whole and small group depending on the skill. We will use Rocket Math to help with math fact fluency and incorporate other math games as well.
Science: Science is broken down into 3 major sections: Physical, Earth, and Life Science. Five stations are incorporated into each lesson allowing small cooperative groups to develop an understanding of the major concepts. At the end of each section, students will complete a project to deepen their understanding of each Science section.
Social Studies: Travelling through the regions of the United States is our focus for Social Studies. We will complete a variety of activities that incorporate our Literacy skills.
Homework: Students will have reading homework each night. They will need to complete will write a summary or reflection each day and then turn it in every Monday. Also, students will set AR goals and will track their progress throughout each quarter. If your student meets their goal they will get to participate in the end of the quarter party for reaching their reading goal.
Planners: Also, students will use a planner daily. Assignments that need to be completed will be circled and should be in their homework folder. Math homework will increase as the math becomes more complex. Planners will need to be signed each night.
Communication: Communication between school and home is one of the most important things we can do! Please feel free to contact me at anytime regarding anything. I am here for you and your child. My contact information will appear on the contact page of my website.
Birthday Treats: We LOVE having treats. Please let me know when you plan to bring them so I can plan accordingly.
Activities: I love to come and watch your children in their activities. Please bring me a schedule early so I can try to come and watch.
